Honey Eyes-Amy Hinrichs

Honey Eyes
By Amy Hinrichs

tapping your finger - trigger like
makes the bones in my hands
swell,
like too many bees in the skin.
you brush your eyes with spray paint.

and you make sure to fill in the lines.
the dips in your shoulders,
make for perfect hibernation. but when you move,
i move.
and i make a marble out of myself.

when you lay sideways
i see the rim of your glasses - like fireworks,
meant for summer,
but stepping up to spring,
make more of a production than our bodies.

and when the kitchen table is our backyard,
and we’re always dusting off our shoes.
instead of ourselves
i can’t help but pull the honey from my pocket,
and tape my eyes back together.
