A Growing Monument-Matthew Sharp
A Growing Monument
By Matthew Sharp
it’s lonely and despairing
to let your fear drive you off of purpose
a cd skipping into monotony
the seed marinating in its pesticide
the irritation of no free will life
tickles me into revolution
worldwide solution
mass unorganization
to stumble upon commodity
and worship its artificiality
symbolically
a growing monument
baptized in guilt and shame
disgraced we adhere
for the smallest glimmer of self importance
reduced to slaves
the gears of commerce lost in dismay
betrayed by the smiling faces
serenading you for votes
the people are dim
inside the host of social replication
an ideal handed down for stability
as we put way too much make up on
we paint ourselves into a corner
never to see again.
