Great Moments In Pop Nudity: Pig Suckling Makes The Cut

Ann Powers (whom we all know from Piece by Piece), blogging for the LA Times music blog Pop & Hiss, weighed in on her favorite provocative nude moments in pop music. Tori’s Virgin and Piglet image from the Boys For Pele album booklet made her list (no shock there, really!). Ann writes:

Tori Amos, piglet suckling photograph, “Boys for Pele”: My partner in writing the book “Piece by Piece” has always been a daring and honest adventurer at the borders of sex and the psyche, so it was no surprise that she went where few had gone before, posing for a photograph by Cindy Palmano of her breast-feeding a young pig. Talk about raising questions about what it means to be a “natural woman.”

Mr. Larkin 2010 Fall Collection

As reported over at Ecouterre eco-fashion designer Casey Larkin was inspired by Tori (and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) when designing her 2010 Fall/Winter line for her label Mr. Larkin. The collection, dubbed “Fallen Fairy”, is the first time Larkin has delved into the world of prints, and the dye (created by Sasha Duerr using Japanese maple leaves, acorns and mint) is even eco-friendly. The collection features drop-crotch harem-pant jumpsuits, high-waisted jodhpurs and flared miniskirts in organic cotton, hemp silk, and recycled polyester.

Here Lies Love reviews

Slowly but surely the reviews are starting to trickle out, and Ted Maider over at Consequence of Sound mentioned Tori, speaking particularly about the track she lends her vocals to, You’ll Be Taken Care Of:

Tori Amos joins the fun for the spicy “You’ll be Taken Care Of”, a tune that makes me really wish I knew how to salsa dance. This song features exotic grooves behind Amos’s vocals as well as a percussion section that contains a plethora of unique sound combos.

Imogen Heap is currently on tour in Australia, and Thursday night fans got quite the treat when she whipped out a cover of Cornflake Girl in Melbourne. Apparently the song was requested by a charity auction winner who won a VIP experience with Immi + a song request. The reviews are mixed so far – check out the FORUM and have your say.

What?! Magazine Features Tori Amos

Tori’s stylist and friend Karen Binns has recently launched What?! magazine, and Tori is featured on the cover (and inside!) of the fourth edition, looking utterly fabulous.

In the editorial, Karen writes:

On the cover of this issue we have my long-time friend and sista Tori Amos, which I guess speaks for itself. She is one of the most insanely attractive people of our time: singer, songwriter, producer and a true Goddess. Here Lies Love

David Byrne and Fatboy Slim have teamed up once again to create a 2 disc, 22 track concept album based on the life of former first lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos. The album is entitled Here Lies Love, and will be released on April 6th. Tori lends her lovely vocals to two tracks, You’ll Be Taken Care Of and Why Don’t You Love Me, the latter being a duet with the wonderful Cyndi Lauper. Quite a few other very talented ladies lend their vocals as well (only two tracks are sung by men, Mr. Byrne takes on one himself, as well as Steve Earle). Tori Amos Announces Midwinter Graces

Tori’s First and Highly Anticipated Seasonal Album to be Released November 10th 2009

After nearly two decades writing and recording some of her generation’s most emotionally powerful music, Tori Amos will release her first seasonal album, Midwinter Graces, on November 10 via Universal Republic. A follow up to Tori’s critically acclaimed studio album, Abnormally Attracted to Sin, Midwinter Graces will find Tori reworking and expanding on classic carols as well as developing some of her very own seasonal tracks.

Midwinter Graces is an album that has been in the making for the past 40 years. Raised in the Baltimore area under the watchful eye of her Methodist minister father, Tori grew up playing holiday carols at Sunday services and Christmas Day celebrations in her father’s church. These were the songs that gave a young Tori her first taste of music, and now almost 40 years later Tori gets her own chance to reimagine classics like “What Child, Nowell” and “Star of Wonder.” Tori will also add her own bittersweet bliss to the season with originally tracks like “Pink and Glitter” and “Our New Year.”

For Midwinter Graces, Amos has again teamed up with long time collaborators Matt Chamberlain on drums, Jon Evans on bass, and Mac Aladdin on guitars. Tori has enlisted the help of a Big Band and an Orchestra with stunning John Philip Shenale arrangements to create Tori’s new seasonal classics.
